Member of the week: Back Street Bicycle Service & Repair
Back Street Bicycle Service & Repair in Walker has been in business since 1998. Owner Paul Nye is a graduate of United Bicycle Institute in Ashland OR. Nye’s shop is located at 409 Michigan Ave. West (behind his house of the same location). The 120 square foot shop, which Nye refers to as “likely the smallest bicycle shop in Minnesota, maybe the U.S.” is primarily a service and repair shop that works on all makes of bicycles. The shop also carries a limited supply of accessories, but stocks over 300 tubes and tires for quick repair, often while you wait. Customer’s often ask Nye what the shop hours are to which he quips, “If I’m home I’m open,” which is a bit of reference to Nye’s “other” job as a professional musician. Most people in Walker know Nye not only as “Paul Nye the Bike Guy,” but “Paul Nye the guitar-Playin’ Guy.” When he isn’t around for a bike repair, typically in the evenings, he’s likely out playing with his 3-piece group, Menten, Thunem & Nye. For more information on Back Street Bicycle Service & Repair call 547-2529 or check out the shop’s website www.walkermnbicycleshop.com. If you want to book Nye’s group for an event, well that’s a whole different matter (www.paulnye.com), one which Nye would likely bend your ear for an hour or two, especially if coffee is involved.
