Halloween isn’t canceled in Walker, MN!
As COVID-19 continues to change our lives, one question has been asked over and over: Is Halloween canceled?
But in Walker, MN, we know such a thing could never exist! Sure, events may look different and crowds may not gather. But that doesn’t change the fact that Halloween is on the calendar, and this year, we need to get in the spirit more than ever. If Halloween isn’t your style, maybe you just need some cozy fall recipes or retail therapy. We’ve got those coming up, too!
The Leech Lake Chamber fun starts with our “Fall” For Our Retail passport program, October 11 through 31st. Then we’ll celebrate our Spook-Tastik week, from October 26th through the 30th.
Be sure to enter our pumpkin carving contest now, so your pumpkins can be displayed at a downtown business throughout the Spook-Tastik Week. You can enter the pumpkin-carving fun by calling 218-547-1313, or emailing info@leech-lake.com. This includes prizes, so you don’t want to miss out! Enter in one of three categories: Business, Under 12, or 12 and older.
During our “Fall” For Our Retail passport program, you can pick up your passport at any of our participating retail stores. See our participating businesses here! For each participating business that you visit, you get one sticker just for stopping in. Spend $20 or more, and you get another sticker (1 “shopping” sticker per location). Once you’ve collected 10 stickers on your passport, write your name and number on it, and drop it off at any participating business to be entered to win a Leech Lake Basket of Fun! Best of all, there is no limit on how many passports you can turn in, and all passports are different. We’ll draw our winner on November 6!
But the fun won’t end there. Our Spook-Tastik Week begins on October 26! Decorations, costumes, silly pictures and pumpkins may be just the thing to get your mind off of… well, all of the real-life spookiness.
October 26th kicks off our festivities as we invite all of our downtown business members to decorate their storefronts the spookiest! Then on October 27, we’ll celebrate National Bat Week with a bat trivia challenge on our Facebook page. On October 28, we invite you to share your “pumpkins and witches brew,” AKA your favorite fall recipes.
This is all great, but Halloween just wouldn’t be Halloween without costumes and pumpkins. That’s why on October 29, we invite you to share your best costume selfies on Facebook! Then on October 30, it’s time to vote for your favorite pumpkin carving in downtown, Walker! This will be another great time to “fall” for our retail businesses downtown, and you can vote online on our Facebook page!
In the Leech Lake area, we know how important it is to keep a sense of “normalcy.” We also understand the importance to find a sense of community and support our local businesses. Besides, no matter what this world throws at us, one thing is certain: You can’t take away our Halloween!
