Fishing Report for week of January 10, 2021

Shrivers Bait..

Fishing and ice report for this last week. Ice making continues to be slow with this warm weather and looks like one more week of warmth! Pine point and horseshoe bay area the ice is 12 to 14 inches with vehicle travel allowed. Many reports of nice walleyes being caught. Using fat heads, shiners, rainbows and smaller sucker minnows! Jigging spoons and set lines. In walker bay the ice is in the 8 to 10 inch ranch. Would still recommend atv and snowmobile travel only!! Fishing has been good! Walleyes and perch! With the warm weather people have been able to move around and that increases the success!

Leech Lake Fish House Rentals

Its been a crazy week on Leech Lake!  Renters enjoyed fantastic fishing through all this great weather we’ve been having lately.  We are currently still operating out of Anderson’s Pine Point Resort where we have multiple plowed ice roads leading out in multiple areas, including the Snake Pits.  Ice conditions have improved gradually despite the warmer weather with 12-14 inches of ice in most areas.  Our ice roads are currently holding 15+ inches of ice.

For Walker Bay, most areas now have 10+ inches of ice, but there are still a few areas we have not checked.  Please travel at your own risk and check ice as you go.  It is still mainly ATV and snomobile traffic, with a few smaller vehicles now starting to operate around the shoreline breaks.  Cedar Point and Sand Point have still been the most consistent areas for both Walleyes and Perch in 10-12 ft of water, or off the secondary breaklines in 16-20 ft.  Rainbows, Golden Shiners and Fatheads have all been working.  There are a few people spearing and angling for panfish in the Shingobee area with moderate success.

On the main lake, the Pine Point / Goose Island area in 12-14 ft as well as Big Rock Reef in 14-18ft out of Horseshoe Bay have been producing Walleyes during the day and through the night.  Many larger fish have been caught throughout the night with primetime hours providing more keeping size fish.  A green or orange buckshot tipped with a minnow head or set lines with large rainbow chubs or light pike minnows have been solid producers.  There have been a few limited reports coming out of the Whipholt and Brevick area with some success in shallow water during the evening.

We still have a few openings for day or sleeper houses for the rest of the month of January.  Give us a call at 218-820-3640 to book your next outing!

More vehicles are venturing out onto Walker Bay, though many are still choosing to go out by ATV or snowmobile.
Our customers report 11” of ice on Walker Bay, though it varies, and that is why many do not yet drive out.
I’ve heard from our guests fishermen are driving all over the big lake.  But I can’t verify that.
They are taking perch on the north Walker Bay flats.  They are catching walleyes on the humps in Walker Bay in 30-40’ of water.
Our guests report there are a lot of walleyes in Leech right now about 11” long, just big enough to be caught.  Still, they are catching some numbers of walleyes in the 14-20” range.
We’ve also had some guest who found numbers of nice-sized walleyes on the east side of Agency Bay.
