Fishing Report for Memorial Day, 2021

Leech Lake Fishing Report

What a crazy week with water temps and air temps on the rise and then the fall and even some frost on the ground.  With that being said, fishing was overall pretty good.  Fishing on the Main lake has been starting to kick out more keeper sized walleyes with some fish over 20″ to keep your rod bending as well.  Focus on 12-18 feet of water most days pulling Lindy Rigs along the edges of the rock reefs and shoreline breaks.  Leeches, Crawlers, and minnows are all working.  Seems on the days you get a little more wind the jig and shiner bite is also still producing fish.  You really this time of year gotta have all the different kinds of bait in the boat.  Let the wind drive where you should fish.  On the West side of the lake, the major points or flats around Goose are all kicking out fish depending on the day and conditions.  Slip bobbers with leeches, rigs, and jigs are the best producers.  There have also been some good reports of trolling crankbaits after dark on the flats but also up in Portage Bay in 5-9 feet of water.

Panfishing has been overall decent, but the crazy up and down temperatures have not helped matters.  A float with a tube around good green weed growth is the ticket.  Remember the new regulations on the lake for both bluegills, sunfish, and crappie.  Look to places such as Shingobee, Boy, Millers, and Steamboat Bay as all good places to start your search.

Smallmouth bass are hitting throughout the lake on rock structures.  Jerkbaits, tubes, and hair jigs are all working as well.

Have a great week
