Happy New Year from Leech Lake Fish House Rental.  Ice conditions have improved well enough that half ton truck traffic is now allowed in most areas of Leech Lake.  The only exception is in areas of Walker Bay where reports of 9-10 inches are still being found.

Main Lake – The Pine Point and Grand View area currently has a consistent 13-15 inches of ice.  There is a main road started from Pine Point Resort that runs from shore to Goose Island.  On friday, a crack opened on the road resulting in the last half mile of road being closed heading north towards Goose Island.  Travel off the main road is limited to mainly UTV vehicles as the snow is still deep enough to hinder movement with vehicles.  Perch for the most part of all sizes have been plentiful in depths of 10-12 feet using fatheads or rainbows on set lines.  Walleyes have been most active during the night time hours actively jigging with reaction baits.

Traders Bay, Horseshoe Bay and Trappers Landing on the south end of the lake are all reporting similar ice conditions with Half ton vehicle traffic being allowed on plowed resort roads.  Travel off road is at your own risk.

Walker Bay – Ice reports vary in the Bay but most areas seem to have 9-10 inches of solid ice.  Travel at this point is still recommended to ATV or small vehicle traffic only.  Typical early ice areas such as Cedar Point, Sand Point and Breezy Point along breaklines in 14-18 ft have been most productive during the evening hours.  Green or Orange glow jigging spoons with a minnow head of any kind are producing most fish.

As ice and snow conditions improve moving forward we will have a more thorough report for everyone.  Overall it was a great first week of activity over the holidays to get a start on the season!

We still have availability for the upcoming week and weekend for our sleepers or day houses.  Give us a call to book soon as houses are filling fast.
