Fishing Report: December 18, 2019 – Trapper’s Landing Lodge

The warm weather has not deteriorated our ice. Currently, we have 14″-16″ of ice in front of the resort. Our ice roads do not cross any heaves or cracks and are holding up well with the traffic. We will be open to ½ ton truck traffic with tandem houses up to 22 ft. If you have longer houses please pull them out with an ATV or Side by side. The current snow depth on the lake averages 2 inches and we have roads marked out to Huddle’s Reef, Diamond Point, and Roger’s Point.

Fishing has been good for most anglers during the lowlight and overnight hours. Most anglers are catching fish in 16-20 ft of water on the sand/rock transition zones on Diamond Point, Huddle’s reef and Olson’s reef. Make sure you pack your underwater camera and find these zones before setting up your ice house. Most of the fish are being caught on setlines with shiners or rainbows and a plain hook. During the day we have had some fish coming a little deeper in 18-22 ft. Aggressive fishing with jigging raps and rippin’ raps during the daylight hours will put some walleye topside.

Perch fishing has been spotty with lots of little fish being reported. Look in Boy and Miller bay along the remaining weed lines for the perch. Small jigs and plastics are getting rid of the smaller fish and saving bait, while a smaller jigging spoon with a full crappie minnow is also working. For crappie and sunfish, look towards the smaller lakes in the areas. Most of the fish have moved out into the basins, keep on the move to catch most of your fish.

We are looking forward to another busy weekend at the resort. The restaurant will be open Thursday -Saturday with daily specials. Please stay tuned on our Facebook page for another fishing report later this week. We look forward to seeing you on the ice.
