Explore Recent Leech Lake Adventures!

Coming to our homepage, you may notice a new button that invites you to “Explore recent adventures.”

Well, now you can do just that! We recently started working with Shrpa, a co-op program with Explore Minnesota. We’re excited to welcome various bloggers to Leech Lake and the Walker, MN community to show them all that Leech Lake has to offer! We want to share their recent adventures with you, and maybe you’ll learn about new things to do in Walker, MN!

So far, we’ve welcomed Lacey and Matti to the Leech Lake area, and these writers have plenty to share! Lacey came away with a whole itinerary of family fun in Walker. That doesn’t mean that family fun can’t include a nice Bloody Mary at The Piggy BBQ. Lacey also enjoyed Walker Bay Coffee Co and Walker City Park! Her full adventure includes photos, a map, and what to bring to your next Walker adventure. Check it out here.

Lacey also enjoyed Walker as a beer lover and a  wine lover. Of course, in true Leech Lake fashion, Lacey also took up Leech Lake fishing! In addition to her family trips, Lacey explored Portage Brewing Company, Wilbur’s on Walker Bay and Reeds Family Outdoor Outfitter, Forestedge Winery, Shingobee on the Bay and WineDown. For her Leech Lake fishing trip, Lacey wrote that she enjoyed a stay at Chase on the lake, and visited Shriver’s Bait Co for her supplies. She later told fishing stories with a meal at Benson’s Eating & Drinking Emporium.

For Matti, Leech Lake is all about reuniting. She wrote that she and her best friend live roughly two hours away from each other, and reconnecting was a struggle — until they discovered Walker as a halfway point. The two friends enjoy walking off their drive and catching up on the Heartland State Trail when they first meet up.

The friends then head to Portage Brewing Company and order takeout — Matti suggests The Piggy BBQ or Village Square Pizza! No matter where you choose, Matti says Village Square’s ice cream is a must.

The friends end their adventure on Leech Lake, often catching a sunset together from the docks at Chase on the Lake.

If you happen to meet our Shrpa adventurers around town, make sure to say hi and show them Leech Lake hospitality! We’re so excited to welcome these new writers to our community and show them our favorite Leech Lake adventures!
