We Are Still Open in Walker!
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused fear and uncertainty throughout our nation, and the Leech Lake area is no exception. Sometimes, it feels like the isolation will never end. But when it becomes necessary to stay cooped up inside the house, you really learn to appreciate the value of community in a new way.
So if you’re feeling a little down about missing your Leech Lake community, we have good news: Several local businesses and organizations have found unique ways to stay open. This means you can continue to enjoy some of your favorite local foods and services, and even some new offerings!

In the meantime, we’ve created a list of creative ways you can support and enjoy local businesses during this time. Be sure to take some photos and share them on our Facebook or Instagram pages!
A Night Out … At Home
Missing your favorite meal at your go-to spot? Many of your favorite local restaurants in Walker currently offer take-out, delivery, and/or curbside pickup services. But as we all know, part of the dining experience is the atmosphere. Why not bring the “night out” experience to your own dining room? Use items from around the house as your at-home restaurant decor. Find the perfect background music on YouTube. You can even make an arts & crafts project out of designing your own menus!
Send a Gift to a Friend
You may not be able to visit a friend or loved one in person, but you can still show them you care! Find a local florist, gift shop, or artist that delivers, and ask them if they can leave a gift on your behalf. You can also consider purchasing a gift card to their favorite restaurant and sending it along with a handwritten greeting!
Spread the Word on Social Media
One great way you can help support local businesses is by sharing about them on social media. Snap a photo of your family enjoying a delicious delivery, share it on your Facebook profile, and encourage others to order as well!
Schedule a Front Porch Photo
Not only can you continue to enjoy your favorite dishes and services from many local businesses, but we’re also offering a unique opportunity to make the most of being stuck at home. Local photographer Jay Lindgren is offering FREE “social distancing” Front Porch Photos. Simply schedule your photo, and Jay will come knock on your door (with a fresh set of gloves, of course). Then, he’ll quickly step back 10+ feet, and give you and your family space to pose on your porch or front steps. After taking some pictures, he’ll be on his way!
