In 2023 the Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating its 70th anniversary. Such a monumental milestone shouldn’t be celebrated on just one day, we will be planning an entire year of activities and events.
In 1953, it began as the Walker Chamber of Commerce. In 1990, it had changed its name to its current name, the Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. This was to reflect the Chamber’s geographic area better, which currently services over 260 Chamber members.
The Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is housed in the U.S. Forest Service- Walker Ranger District building on Hwy 371, Walker’s Main Street. The building was built in 2013. The partnership with the Forest Service has been a great one thus far that we feel will better serve our visitors in years to come.
Help us track the signs of spring by writing down your signs of spring, from summer birds arriving to spring flowers blooming, or bikers on the Heartland Trail. Anything that is a sign of
spring to you.

#2 Show your love of the Leech Lake Area on Valentines Day by making an ice luminary for your front yard. Use any kind of cake pan (heart shaped or bundt cake pans work great!) and add water. Set outside to freeze overnight. The ice shape will pop out easily once frozen, or use a little hot water on pan bottom to loosen if necessary. Place the shaped ice in the snow away from buildings or anything flammable and set a small candle behind it. Light the candle after dark and enjoy your Valentine luminary!
Our very first activity in February will fit well with our cold weather, Valentines’ Day and your love of the area. Hope you will join in the fun and help us celebrate 70 years!
