Take a mom fishing Mother’s Day weekend
Take a mom fishing Mother’s Day weekend
Mother’s Day or Opening Fishing? This is usually a dilemma about which to celebrate. If you choice fishing over your mom the guilt could last all year. If you choose your mother (which you obviously should do) the day is spent thinking about the lake and the one that got away.
That is not a problem this year, Mother’s Day is falling on the weekend before Opening fishing. But what if your mom loves to fish and now you are expected to think of something else to do with her? Fear not! Minnesota DNR has declared this weekend as take a mom fishing weekend. But there are some rules to follow:
Mothers who are residents of Minnesota can fish without a license from Saturday, May 7, to Sunday, May 8, during Take a Mom Fishing Weekend.
During the weekend, mothers can fish only for species that have open fishing seasons. Take a Mom Fishing Weekend each year coincides with Mother’s Day, which this year is the weekend before the fishing season opens for walleye, northern pike, bass and trout in lakes.
Fishing is already open for species that are popular among anglers all year, like crappie, bluegill and trout in streams. For more information on fishing seasons and regulations, visit the Fish Minnesota page at www.dnr.state. mn.us.
Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Fishing!
