Snowmobile Trails Conditions December 27, 2022
Walker area: Heartland Trail to Cass Lake is being worked on today. This is an area with heavy downage so use caution when traveling. Snoway is groomed and ridable but working on cutting brush each time they go out. Chippewa Trail (C Trail) has been groomed. Paul Bunyan has been groomed and the cut across from the Bunyan to the Heartland is also groomed. Heartland to Akeley is also groomed.
Soo Line is cautionary – they are working on it as quick as they can but there is significant downage that needs heavy equipment to remove debris from the trail system.
Nevis area: Karl is reporting heavy snow hanging on trees over the trail system and clean up is going to be a challenge. Grooming and trail clean up continues, albeit slowly. The trail towards Huntersville is about 1/2 cleared but is not groomed. He is hoping to groom the Heartland tonight. Be careful and please patient – he has a very limited team.
Longville area: The Longville group is putting together a crew to get started on storm clean up on the Chippewa West trail. They will meet Wednesday morning at 10am at the edge of town @ Hwy 5 where the trail enters the woods @ Nellie Lake Rd. Bill H. will be working on the west end, south of Pine Lake Rd., with an excavator and they will be working from town to Pine Lake Rd. You will need a snowmobile and a chainsaw if you have one. There are saws at the shop if needed. They will need people to remove brush and debris from the trail, so a saw is not totally required.
If anyone is interested in helping, please contact Lance.

Please note……………….this is our first big snowfall, so be sure to stay on the trails. Be sure to check with the DNR before proceeding unto the ice. Conditions may vary. Our groomers are recommending that wherever you plan to ride, call ahead for trail conditions. Many areas of Minnesota are experiencing the same issues.
Downfall is playing havoc on all of the area trail systems so please be patient as our area groomers are volunteers and have day jobs as well. They are working very hard to get the trails picked up as quickly as they can. If anyone is available and would like to help out, they would greatly appreciate help picking up tree branches along the trail routes.
