Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday was first observed on November 27, 2010. Black Friday and Cyber Monday feature big box retail and e-commerce stores, whereas Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to shop in brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.
This holiday was conceived by American Express and promoted on radio and TV nationwide.
The Leech Lake Area Chamber has registered Walker with our Small Business Saturday on November 28, 2015 this year. We received free marketing materials and made them available to our retail stores. We also plan a day of festivities so that there is something for everyone to do in town.
The morning will start off with the Reindeer Ramble. The runner’s will start at the Chase on the Lake. The Children’s party based around the “A Christmas Carol” will be held downstairs at the American Legion starting at noon. This is being sponsored by Leech Lake Chamber of Commerce, Spencer Ross American Legion, Thrifty White Drug Store, Super One Foods, Walker Bay Theater and American National Bank.
Action Entertainment will be giving horse and buggy rides beside the Village Square. In front of the Village Square will be the “Giving tree”. Pick up a mitten to make a donation for local school or local Sr. Citizen.
BUT the biggest event happening is our downtown and retail stores will be open. They have been planning for this day all year long. Check out your favorite store or stop in one that you have never visited before and see what they have to offer on this special Saturday.
Ask your local stores about the Great Gift Card Giveaway as you shop. Get your red tickets at participating stores to try and win $1000 in gift cards.
We are working hard to make Small Business Saturday a success for our business. What can you do to help? Promote your participation on your website and social pages. Put up posters to let your customers know that you are taking part of this local holiday. Go to ShopSmall.com to download the social posts that are available and post them on Facebook, Twitter and anywhere else online.
This is the sixth Small Business Saturday and American Express makes it fun and easy to participate. This day is a CELEBRATION. A day to acknowledge small business.
