A moment in time: Mail Boat Excursion Trips
Did you know your mail used to be delivered by boat?
The Walker Mailboat offered mail service for those people who lived all over Leech Lake. Herman Fisher was awarded the contract for mail delivery. Harold and his wife Vera operated the mailboat for 31 years until the US Postal Service discontinued the route in 1977. Vera often took up to 19 passengers with her, delivering mail on 75 mile route.
The Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the Cass County Museum will present “A Moment in Time” each week. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, please give us a call at 218-547-1313 and we will be happy to give you some more information!
