A moment in Time: Carnegie Library
Our first library was organized in1900. By 1907 a traveling library was sent by train from the Minnesota State Public Library Commission and was housed in Crow’s Drug Store. In 1907 Walker applied for a grant from Andrew Carnegie. The Library was built in 1911 and we were the smallest community in the US to have a Carnegie library. This grand building was destroyed on March 31, 1976 by a fuel tank explosion. Our new library was built at the same location and dedicated August of 1979.
The Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the Cass County Museum will present “A Moment in Time” each week. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, please give us a call at 218-547-1313 and we will be happy to give you some more information!
