Leech Lake Is Happening in February!
Minnesota in the winter is a beautiful thing – the lakes are covered in silvery ice, the snow is gathering on the trees, and the Minnesota sunrises and sunsets are at their most breathtaking. February is a great time to visit one of the local lodges and resorts and finally take the getaway you’ve been meaning to plan since before the Christmas rush.
Whether you’re headed up to Leech Lake this February with your family, ice fishing buddies, or simply to catch a cozy weekend with a loved one, the Walker and Leech Lake area has a number of events scheduled so you can make the most of your winter fun.
February 14th: Valentine Candlelight Ski at Shingobee
Join Shingobee Hills Recreation Area for an evening of candlelight skiing with your Valentine. We’ll start at the historic chalet, and head on down to the base of the sledding hill, where there will be a ½ mile of candlelit ski trails. Then, you’re invited back up to the chalet for a hot cocoa warm-up sure to please even the chilliest in your party. This event is free and open to the public.
February 20th – 21st: North Country Buyer’s Show
Leech Lake is proud to host the 44th Annual North Country Resort, Retail and Restaurant Buyer’s Show at Northern Lights Event Center. This year’s Buyer’s Show features some brand new vendors as well as year-after-year favorites from a host of industries, and they’ll be bringing furniture, decor, insurance services, boats, t-shirts, apparel and more. Whether you own a business in one of these sectors or just enjoy seeing what the industry has to offer, we’re sure you’ll find something that sparks your interest.
February 21st – 24th: International Eelpout Festival
2019 marks the 40th Annual International Eelpout Festival. Here at Leech Lake, we’re proud to celebrate what we call the world’s ugliest bottom-dwelling fish, and we do it by inviting people from all over the country to attend a festival right on beautiful, frozen Leech Lake. The festival has been named one of the “15 Weird Midwestern Festivals You Never Knew Existed,” and we couldn’t be prouder. Don’t miss the live music, ice bar, eelpout rugby, dog sled races and all the crazy competitions that will make this festival unforgettable! 
After all the festivities, cozy up to the fire at one of Leech Lake’s many lodges and resorts, or check out one of the many dining options Leech Lake and Walker have to offer.
