Fishing Report – January 8, 2023 – Leech Lake Fish House Rentals
January 8, 2023
Main Lake
Consistent weather improved the bite this week for our renters in the Goose Island area. Most were able to fill a bucket with keeper size perch with some sorting having to be done. Best depths were 12-14 ft around the Grand View Flats area. Current ice reports area sitting in the 14-16 inch area of clear solid ice in most areas. The walleye bite slowed a bit this week for numbers but the best tactics were actively jigging during in the evening and overnight hours or tip ups set with larger minnows out away from the house. The eelpout bite still remains present with most finding a fish or two during the overnight hours on set lines.
Limited reports out of Horseshoe Bay and Trappers Landing show reports of a few Walleyes being caught during the morning and evening hours in the Paris Trench area in 20-24 ft out of Stoney Point and in the Huddles Reef area in 16-18ft. Ice conditions in those areas are in the 13-16 inch range.
Walker Bay
Improved ice conditions have increased traffic in Walker Bay. Ice conditions are still ranging in the 13-15 inches in most areas with less and more being reported in isolated areas. Cedar Point, Sand Point and Breezy Point have all been producing a few walleyes in the early morning and evening hours. Best depths have been anywhere from 11-18 ft using anything in Green or Orange glow on set lines. A decent perch bite has been reported in the Sand Point area in 9-11 ft on transition sand to weed transition areas.
The extended forecast looks great weather wise, give us a call or send us a message if you would like to book a sleeper or day house rental with us. We still have openings for the next couple weeks.
