Fishing Report for January 10, 2022 – Leech Lake Fish House Rentals
Another week of snow, wind, extreme low temps followed by a day or two of stable weather has produced mixed fishing reports from Leech Lake.
Main Lake – Snow conditions have limited travel a bit. Some drifting has occurred which is limiting off road mobility with vehicles. Current ice conditions in the Pine Point / Goose Island / Traders Bay area are currently in the 16-18 inch range. Most if not all traffic is now being done with vehicles. The Stoney Point / Horseshoe Bay area has been battling a few ice heaves for travel to certain areas but conditions are relatively similar. Fishing reports have been of a decent bite in the morning and evening hours for Walleyes. Jigging spoons in green or orange glow have produced best. Perch have started showing up as of late, look for long expansive flat areas in 9-11 ft of water during mid day hours for your best action of jumbos. During the extreme cold swings set lines with a plain hook and shiner minnow have outproduced actively jigging for both Walleyes and Perch.
Walker Bay – Ice conditions have improved some, however with the increased snow conditions there are some flooding issues occurring. Most areas are sitting at 11-13 inches of ice with limited vehicle traffic being used in plowed areas only. As far as the fishing, reports of dead sticks with shiners or rainbow chubs are working best for walleyes during the early morning and late evening / overnight hours. 20-28 ft on the edge of main shoreline structure areas have been the best depths. A few walleyes are being caught on the north end of the bay in the 10-12 ft area as well around Sand Point.
