Fishing Report for February 6, 2023
Leech Lake Fish House Rentals
Last weeks sub zero weather helped improve ice conditions across Walker Bay and the Main Lake. A consistent 16-20 inches of ice or better is being found now in most areas across the lake. Snow depths still remain in the 6″ to 2 feet range on the main lake where areas of drifted snow has occurred still making off road traffic difficult. Walker Bay snow conditions are considerably better with smaller snow depths. Most 4 wheel drive vehicles are able to get around with houses off of main plowed ice roads.
Main Lake – the perch bite has been good all over the Northwest side of the lake. Areas such as Grand View flats, the Snake Pits and Gregs Breakline have all been consistently producing keeper size perch with some sorting having to be done. Dead sticks and a single plain hook worked best during the week during the extreme cold weather. Walleyes have been hitting during the evening hours in the Ottertail Point area out of Acorn Hill’s plowed ice roads. A decent walleye bite has also been reported in the Submarine/Annex Reef area as well.
Walker Bay – the Sand Point area was best during the week for perch and walleye. Depths varied but most consistent reports came from 12-14 feet of water along sand to weed transition areas. A few eelpout are starting to show up along the Cedar Point area along the sharper breaklines in 20-35 feet of water. This bite should pick up as we move further into February and closer to the eelpout spawning season.
