Family Safety Network – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month – Family Safety Network has stood on the front line of domestic violence since 1996. 2022 marks the 34th anniversary of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It is our goal to bring higher awareness and to create places in our communities where victims can feel safe, but it truly takes a village.
In the last year, Family Safety Network has provided help to 806 families. Those families received over 10,000 services. Domestic violence does not discriminate, it know no boundaries, it has no socio-economic status, and it does not see color. It occurs in all demographics and in all communities and all walker of life. Statistics shows that 1 in 4 women have experienced domestic abuse and 1 in 7 men. There are 14 calls per minute to domestic violence hotlines each day.
Our goal this October is not only to raise awareness but also to raise funds so we can continue to provide valuable services in our communities. We provide 24 hour crisis line, one on one advocacy, certified trauma informed care, emergency shelter, assistance with housing, and education with daily living skills and financial empowerment. We also provide legal advocacy, legal clinics, and host legal kiosks. These services coupled with our one on one support groups and partnerships to provide mental health services allow us to address the whole situation and not just the crises. We have built strong and valuable relationships with area law enforcement and social services and the teamwork approach has been valuable to all.
Family Safety Network is a 501C3 that provides services in Cass, Hubbard, and Clearwater Counties. We are funded solely by donations and grants. Any support that you could give to us would be used for direct client assistance. Without the support of organizations such as yours, we simply could not do what we do.
