Chippewa National Forest Howl O Ween
Chippewa National Forest Howl O Ween Friday, October 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
One of my favorite outdoor programs of the whole year is coming up on October 28th! The Chippewa National Forest will be hosting the 8th Annual Howl – O- Ween event at Shingobee Hills. This family-friendly event is a night-time scavenger hunt along a short pumpkin-lit trail, right at the base of the Shingobee sledding hills. ! Forest Service staff will be tending a campfire at the top of the sledding hill, and will direct you down to the historic chalet. Once at the chalet, pick up the Bat Scavenger Hunt game card and start on the path. Volunteers from the Forest Service, WHA School and Walker community will have stations set up along the path with answers to scavenger hunt questions and hand out a few treats! Kids can also be on the look-out for a few night-time critters we have hidden along the trail! Don’t worry—this is all fun and not scarey!
After the loop around our Howl O Ween trail, come back to the chalet and have some hot chocolate or roast a marshmallow at the campfire near the chalet. We will also have some fun activities to celebrate National Bat week, including bat hats, bat paper airplanes and bat dress up! Make sure to sign up for our batty door prizes, which include 3 bat houses! Kids are welcome to dress up like their favorite critters—we especially love to see bat costumes! No scary costumes, please.
