Leech Lake Art League – Guest Blogger – Steven Reiter
The Leech Lake Art’s League is getting together to be creative Thursday’s in the basement of Walker American Legion. Our goal is to produce great works of art. In watercolor, oil, or acrylic paint. Other members of our group work at home studios in clay, wood, or even glass. In which case they will bring pieces in for critique. We share our experience. Helping one another with suggestions for improvement. The process of work in this environment provides opportunity for us to learn and to share without any pressure. Putting brush to canvas can be precarious, exciting, even magical. What we imagine. Often evolves into something else during the process. We take risks in an attempt to express the familiar in a new light. The Labrador retriever painted in shades of purple and black. The lake reflecting a sunset of pink, orange, and blue gray. The challenge to produce an original work that tells a story. That expresses a feeling. That gets a reaction from the viewer. There is the reward. It all comes together at the annual show to be held again over the labor day holiday weekend in the ballroom of the Chase on the Lake Resort Hotel.
