Fishing in the Leech Lake Area

This was another great week of fishing on Leech Lake guiding out of City Dock Stewarts Launch Fishing.  The visitor's that I guided for twice this week were of three generations and I learned so much from these families about the good old days of fishing on Leech Lake or about how they came to visit this area.  Both families had a tradition of how they came to fish Leech Lake and both had cabins on other lakes but love to shop the stores at Walker.  The Chase Hotel was discussed alot and the Hotel brought many fond memories back to both groups. Yes the Chase did open this week and it is a beautiful place to dine or spend some time. The view looking over Walker Bay is hard to beat and the 502 Chase restaurant will give you that opportunity.

Back to fishing as the bite for Walleye is still hot on Leech Lake. This week a white green combo jig tipped with a shiner still worked but a jig tipped with a leech or nightcrawler was also working.

Some fisherperson's pulling spinners tipped with a nightcrawler also were having success. Shad raps crayfish color were a good bet to catch some nice fish.  Best spots this week, Sucker Bay both first and second Duck and Ottertail point. The west side of Goose Island was also producing some fish.  Last Saturday and Sunday the wind was really bad and it kept many fisherperson's home.  The big 4th of July celebration at the Walker City Park is ready to kick off on the fourth. Many Activities in the park and at dark the Famous Walker Lions Fireworks display will be shot over Walker Bay which is always spectacular.

Hope you all have a fantastic fourth and hope you plan to be here in Walker to enjoy all the festivities!!!!!

Fishing on Leech Lake is awesome!!

We had people saying its the best it 's been in 30 years.

What makes it so great is that not only are they catching 22 to 26 inch protected fish but they are catching 13 and 14 inch eaters it is a great combination. Stony Point is the Hot spot this week! They are still doing good on Pine, Hardwoods, Sand and Sugar Points.  Jig gold and chartruse being the best, white is also working good tipped with shiner Minnow.  I have heard a few people trying Leeches with mixed results. Northern Pike action is also picking us with lots of nice fish being caught.  Pan fish are going strong in almost every bay, so if you have little ones they can be kept very busy.  Come and enjoy Leech Lake with us this year.
