Festival of Lights – Walker, Minnesota

Twinkling Lights, beautiful trees, children playing and carols being sung, what does this mean?  Time for Festival of Lights in Walker, Minnesota.

Walker’s Festival of Lights will be November 27-28. This event has been a long time tradition for local residents and holiday visitors. The area businesses have been getting ready for the Holidays during the past few weeks and the city will be sparkling from one end to the other.

The Festival of Lights activities will kick-off on Friday with the Festival of Lights Parade at 6:00. The parade will go down Main Street and end at the city park. The park will be lit up that evening and every night throughout the holidays. Thanks to our generous sponsors the park will be as bright as ever!

On Saturday November 28th the Reindeer Ramble will take off from the Chase Hotel at 10:00am.  This will be a 2 mile walk/run that participants of all ages can do. Early registration is recommended; forms can be picked up at the Chamber office or from area businesses. The morning of the Reindeer Ramble registrations will be accepted from 8:30-9:30 at The 502 at The Chase Hotel. The first 150 participants will receive a limited edition Reindeer Run stocking cap.

At noon on Saturday the horse drawn wagon rides will begin at Village Square, and from Noon-3:00, The Christmas party will be held downstairs in the American Legion. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be attending the party and would love to hear the children’s Christmas wishes. The theme of the party this year is A Christmas Carol. Throughout the city stores and restaurants will be offering specials.

Be sure to check out the giant Festival of Lights Giving Tree in front of Village Square; this tree will be filled with mittens, stockings and candy canes. Stop by to take a mitten; each mitten includes a list of items needed by a WHA School classroom. There are also ornaments shaped like Christmas stockings. These stockings are filled out with some items needed by area senior citizens. Please help us to make sure all mittens and stockings filled with wishes are filled this year. The cost of filling one of the mitten/stocking wishes is approximately $10.00.

Hope you can enjoy one or all of the wonderful Festival of Lights activities in Walker this year. For more information visit Leech-Lake.com or call 218-547-1313.
