Copper Street Brass brings “Into the Deep” to Walker

The CSB Presents “Into the Deep: Exploring Minnesota’s Greatest Resource Though Art and Music”

Wed Jul 26th
Walker, MN map

Minneapolis-based Copper Street Brass (CSB) represents a new direction in brass chamber music. Combining classical music with jazz, pop and rock music, the CSB brings their new touring program all about our relationship with water to Walker on Wednesday, July 26th. “Into the Deep: Exploring Minnesota’s Greatest Resource Through Art and Music” features the CSB’s signature blend of accessible music for brass, drums, guitar and keyboard intertwined with projections of paintings by acclaimed artist Mary Ann Cleary and poignant narrations exploring the role water plays in the lives of Minnesotans. The day-long event includes a painting workshop called “Community Create!” in the Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce with Mary Ann, followed by an exhibition of her art, a pre-concert talk with CSB musicians, and an evening capstone concert in the Walker City Park. All events are free, accessible, and open to the public. Don’t forget your lawn chairs and blankets!

Copper Street Brass is a full-time arts ensemble based in Minneapolis. They perform over 40 concerts each year, and pride themselves on being the busiest and most active brass group in the Upper Midwest. They are dedicated to outreach and education – performing over 100 classroom concerts and school lyceums for students kindergarten through college each year.

The group plays music ranging from traditional classical music to toe-tapping jazz, and stunning folk melodies to modern pop and rock mega-hits. The CSB shatters the divide between listener and performer with lively banter from stage as well as audience interaction. The musicians of CSB not only perform on trumpets, horn, trombone, and tuba, but also keyboard, guitar, drums, and electronics – enabling the group to provide the listener with a wide array of sounds and timbres. All of the group’s music is arranged and composed by and for themselves to create a truly unique sound that is undeniably Copper Street Brass.

MaryAnn Cleary, a native Montanan and accomplished Chemical Engineer, has woven her love of fine art into every aspect of her life. MaryAnn has always balanced her loves of both art and science, finding inspiration and relief in the study of fine art. With a backbone built on the basics of drawing and color, MaryAnn adores on-site plein air painting because it helps fund her wanderlust.
